TREATMENT OF 50 CASES OF GASTRITIS WITH ECIWO ACUPUNCTUREDr. Zhang Xihua, Dr. Song Binghong and Yuan Zhaorong
Abstract This paper reports the ECIWO diagnosis and treatment of 50 cases of superficial gastritis by means of the acupuncture in the points in the sides of their second metacarpal bones. Of the patients 30 were men and 20 women. 22 of them were cured, 26 significantly improved and 2 improved. The total effectiveness rate was 100£¥¡£The success proves the objective existence of ECIWO point groups and shows their unique curative uses.
Key Words ECIWO acupuncture, gastritis, clinical observation
ECIWO biology is a new branch of knowledge founded by Professor Zhang Yingqing of Shandong University and has caught great attention of academic circles both at home and abroad. The new theory points out:¡° The distribution of all the correlated points in these ECIWOs turn the embryos into epitomes of the whole. ¡±Therefore, the diseases of all the tissues and organs can manifest themselves in their correlated points. Acupuncture in the correlated points can improve the functions of their corresponding tissues or organs so as to get rid of a disease. Since 1993, we have applied ECIWO theory and theory of ECIWO biology widely to clinical diagnosis and treatment and treated 50 cases of common gastritis by means of acupuncture the sides of their second metacarpal bones and obtained good results. The report is as follows.
1. Clinical Data
Of the 50 outpatients 30 were men and 20 women. The youngest was 25 and the oldest 64 with the average being 42. 5. 20 of them were retired persons, 19 cadres, 1 worker, 1 cook, 3 farmers, 2 accountants and 4 drivers.
2. Methods
The patient was asked to take a sitting posture and diagnosis came before treatment. The second metacarpal side of the patient was tested with a self-made point-locating pen from the head point to the foot point in proper order and selected the most sensitive point. Usually no.26 needles 1 cun long were inserted into 2 points on one hand or on both hands to the depth of 0. 8 cm each time and were lifted, thrusted and twirled. When the patient had a strong needling feeling, impulse stimulation was given to reinforce the effects of the needles. The needles remained in the points for 30-45 minutes each time. 7 times of treatment constituted a course.
3. Criteria of Curative Effects
Recovery:After the treatment all the signs are gone and there is no relapse of them within 3 months. Significant improvement:The signs are gone and no gastric medicine is necessary. Improvement: After the treatment the signs lessen remarkably. No improvement: After the treatment the signs remain the same. 4.Results
Of the 50 cases of gastritis 22 recovered, 26 significantly improved, 2 improved and no one failed to improve. The total effectiveness rate was 100%.
5. Typical Cases
1. Yu, a 58-year-old retired cadre of Linyin Prefectural Industrial and Commercial Bank, paid a visit to our hospital on March 8, 1993. She complained of a long-standing gastric pain, which would worsen when she was in low spirits or hungry and which had been diagnosed as extensive superficial gastritis at many provincial or prefectural hospitals. It had responded to the oral administration of imported and the latest Chinese -made medicines, but would relapse after discontinuation of them. She was sad all day long and shed tears frequently. On examination, her liver and stomach points on the sides of the second metacarpal bone of both her hands were tender, so needles were inserted into them. 15 minutes later she had a feeling of slight burning and heat in the stomach. 25 minutes later, her stomachache lessened dramatically. After 2 courses of treatment her stomachache was gone. We paid a follow-up visit to her 3 months later and found no relapse. She said cheerfully:¡°I had not expected that a lingering pain that had cost me thousands of yuan could be cured by a few needles. It is great. "¡±Later, citing herself as an example, she recommended 6 our hospital to 6 patients all of whom were treated successfully here.
2. Wang, a 25-year-old waiter of Taoranju Hotel in Linyi Prefecture, paid a visit to our hospital on the recommendation of a friend on February 6, 1994.He complained that he had had a feeling of burning and a distending pain in the stomach for over 5 months, which had been diagnosed as superficial gastritis through gastrofiberscope examination £¨examination no. 4201£© and had failed to respond to gastritis medicines. On examination, the stomach points on the sides of the second metacarpal bones of both his hands were sensitive, so needles were inserted into them. He was cured after being treated 5 times. A follow-up visit 3 months later found all the symptoms were gone.
3. Song, a 28-year-old medical worker at the hospital of Linyi prefectural institutions, had had a feeling of slight pain and burning in the stomach for 2 years. In 1992 she was hospitalized due to acute gastric perforation £¨hospitalization no. 003989 and x-ray fluoroscopy no. 2496£©in 1992 and received conservative treatment and was discharged after recovery. After that, however, she often felt discomfort and a slight pain in the stomach, so she dared not eat solid food and had had soft food for 2 years since then. The symptoms would worsen due to her improper diet or lower spirits. The symptoms would respond somewhat to Chinese and Western medicines, but after discontinuation of the use of them the symptoms would worsen again. Thus her work and study were affected. On examination, her stomach and liver points on the sides of the second metacarpal bones of both her hands were sensitively tender, so the 2 points on one hand or both hands were acupunctured 24 times and all the symptoms were gone. He discontinued the use of medicines and everything about his condition was normal.
6. Discussion
The ECIWO diagnosis and therapy invented by Professor Zhang and proved by clinical practice is convenient to operate and easy to learn and memorize and can be used at any time and place regardless of the conditions. Traditional body acupuncture, ear acupuncture and nose acupuncture can by no means be compared to them. Clinical practice has proved the objective existence of ECIWO point groups. The therapy is practical and economical, safe and causes no side effects, can treat a wide variety of diseases, can be readily accepted by patients and produces miraculous curative effects.
